These terms apply when you book kitesurfing lessons, courses, packages, equipment rental or trips with Valampuri Kitesurfing, the kite centre of Valampuri Resort in Kalpitiya, Sri Lanka. We confirm the specific details of your booking — dates, inclusions and price — in writing before you pay.
1. Booking and prices
- Enquiring is free and commits you to nothing. We reply with availability, a recommendation and a full, itemised price.
- Prices are quoted in EUR and may be paid by bank transfer, in USD, EUR or LKR at the day's exchange rate. What is included is stated on every quote.
- No deposit is required to make a booking. Closer to your arrival we ask for a deposit of at least 10% to secure your dates, with the balance due on or before arrival.
- A booking is confirmed once we acknowledge it in writing (WhatsApp or email); your dates are secured once the deposit is received.
2. Lessons, levels and progress
- Lessons follow the IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) curriculum. Valampuri is an IKO Affiliated Center (No. 86041).
- Kitesurfing is learned at each person's own pace. We give honest estimates of how many hours you may need, but we cannot guarantee that any individual will reach a particular level in a set time.
- You must follow your instructor's guidance and safety instructions at all times.
3. Suitability, health and safety
- You must be able to swim and be comfortable in open water, and be in reasonable general health, to take part.
- You must tell us in advance of any medical condition, injury or medication that could affect your safety on the water.
- We may decline or stop a session where we judge it unsafe — for conditions, health or conduct — in the interest of your safety and others'.
- Minimum age and weight guidelines apply to lessons; ask us if you are booking for a young person.
4. Assumption of risk
Kitesurfing and related water and boat activities carry inherent risks that cannot be entirely removed, even with proper instruction, modern equipment and safety support. By taking part, you accept these risks. We take safety seriously — certified instruction, quick-release systems, shallow-water teaching, radio coaching and rescue-boat cover — but participation is at your own risk to the extent permitted by law. We strongly recommend travel and activity insurance that covers watersports.
5. Weather and conditions
- Kitesurfing depends on wind, and we will not teach or run trips in unsafe or unusable conditions.
- Where wind is insufficient, prepaid lesson hours are rescheduled within your stay wherever possible.
- Boat trips cancelled by us for weather are rescheduled or the trip fee refunded.
6. Equipment and rental
- Equipment provided with lessons and rentals is well maintained and matched to conditions. You are responsible for using it as instructed.
- Independent riders renting equipment may need to demonstrate their level and accept separate rental terms, including responsibility for loss or damage caused by misuse.
7. Cancellation and changes
Cancellations made 30 days or more before arrival receive a full refund of anything paid. Cancellations made within 15 days of arrival are refunded 75% (25% retained); the period between 30 and 15 days is handled on a sliding basis, confirmed for your dates. Weather-affected lessons are rescheduled within your stay, and boat trips cancelled by us for weather are rescheduled or refunded. See the summary on our cancellation policy, and ask us if anything is unclear before you book.
8. Accommodation and the resort
Packages that include accommodation are provided together with Valampuri Resort. Room bookings, resort facilities and the wider stay are also subject to the resort's own terms.
9. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss, injury or damage arising from risks inherent to the activity, from conditions outside our reasonable control, or from a participant not following safety instructions. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka.
