About Valampuri Kitesurfing

A family-run kite centre on the edge of Kalpitiya Lagoon — teaching this water since 2017.

Who we are

The kite school of a family-run resort

Valampuri Kitesurfing is the kite centre of Valampuri Resort, a family-owned property directly on Kalpitiya Lagoon. The school has been an IKO Affiliated Center (No. 86041) since October 2017 and has taught more than 500 students on this water.

We are not the loudest school on the lagoon and don't want to be. Our thing is patient, structured teaching, honest advice about conditions, and a base where the water, your room, your meals and your rest are all a short walk apart.

  • IKO Affiliated Center No. 86041 since 2017
  • 500+ students taught on Kalpitiya Lagoon

Instructors

Taught by people who ride this lagoon daily

Lessons are led by Jeevan, our head kite instructor, with a small local team. All teaching follows the IKO curriculum: radio-helmet coaching so your instructor's voice is with you on the water, clear stage-by-stage progression, and a rescue boat on standby during lessons.

Because the team is local and the lagoon is home water, you get the kind of spot knowledge — where the shallow bank sits, how the afternoon wind bends — that no visiting instructor can offer.

Equipment

Gear you can trust at your size

The school runs modern, well-maintained kites and boards across the size range, led by Duotone equipment, with school gear as a value option. Lesson students always ride with helmet, flotation vest, safety leash and radio. Independent riders can rent by session or day — insurance included.

The base

Based at Valampuri Resort

The kite centre lives at Valampuri Resort on the lagoon shore: rooms, chalets and dorms, a restaurant, pool and gardens. Kite guests can book packages with accommodation; rooms, dining and the wider resort experience are on the resort's own site.

Safety & rescue

Watched over, from the first lesson

Safety is built into how we teach, not bolted on. You learn the kite's quick-release and self-rescue in your very first session, and you ride with a helmet, flotation vest and safety leash throughout. On the water your instructor coaches you through a two-way radio, so guidance reaches you the moment you need it.

  • Rescue boat on standby during lessons and trips
  • Radio-helmet coaching on every lesson
  • We wait out unsafe wind rather than push through it
  • Shallow, stand-up lagoon water for every beginner session
